PFAS: A man-made issue with a man-made solution through Plasma Blue

With rising concerns and regulations around PFAS, Plasma Blue is the solution for leachate treatment on-site. Recently, Plasma Blue and Cottonwood County Solid Waste partnered to test the leachate on-site at the facility.
Leachate was sent to wastewater treatment facilities, but many of these no longer accept leachate, as they have learned that PFAS, aka “forever chemicals,” is not destroyed during treatment, but instead it collects in the biosolids.
The challenge for landfills is finding cost-effective solutions that remove and destroy PFAS. Plasma Blue’s technology can support the efforts of landfills to address the PFAS contamination of leachate and groundwater through on-site treatment of leachate.
“The reason why I reached out to Plasma Blue had to do with the cost of running the liquid through the (Plasma Blue) system. Other systems are very expensive, and it costs a lot to run it through their systems,” Kyle Pillatzki with the Cottonwood County Solid Waste facility said. “This system is meant to do .07 cents per gallon as far as electricity use and that definitely sparked my interest.”
Plasma Blue offers a technology that can bring PFAS levels in leachate down to below regulation levels right on-site at a landfill before the final product is hauled away.
“We’re keeping communities healthy in a cost-effective way, and the PFAS issue is going to continue to grow, impacting the health of millions across this country,” Plasma Blue CEO Tom Slunecka said. “We’re ready to help communities as a solution to this issue in a cost-effective way.”
Contact the Plasma Blue team to submit a sample for testing. The team, using a third-party lab, will test it to keep the information safe and organized.
“It’s important that we take care of it right here at the site so we can haul our leachate to a closer facility because that facility can’t get rid of their biosolids unless they get rid of their PFAS,” Pillatzki said.
