Treating Leachate

For landfill management, handling and treating leachate is critical. Traditionally, leachate went to wastewater treatment facilities for treatment. However, many of these facilities no longer accept leachate, as they learned that PFAS is not destroyed during treatment and instead it collects in the biosolids.

This poses a challenge for operations, as biosolids are often applied to fields and pastures, where PFAS can leach into the soil and water and contaminate local crops and livestock. This contamination led states to implement regulations to limit PFAS in biosolids and triggered the cessation of leachate treatment at wastewater treatment facilities.

The loss of wastewater treatment capacity has left many landfills looking for alternatives to treat their leachate. The challenge for landfills is finding cost-effective solutions that remove and destroy PFAS. Plasma Blue’s technology is here to support the efforts of landfills to address the PFAS contamination of leachate and groundwater.

How Plasma Blue Can Help

  • The unit cost-effectively destroys PFAS, resolving the problem of PFAS today, so that it does not continue to grow
  • The simple, mobile design of the unit allows for easy deployment at the site of contamination or treatment
  • The use of standard 200V electricity significantly reduces infrastructure investment by allowing seamless integration into existing electrical infrastructure
  • The modular design allows the unit to be scaled to meet the specific needs of a landfill

Each facility is unique from the volume needed to be treated to the level and type of contaminants in the leachate stream.

Connect with us today to learn how we can help you mitigate PFAS contamination. Our staff will conduct in-depth reviews and build a system that meets your needs.
